qipaos

Silk Qipao Detail
1950s Qipao

Two stunning qipaos (also known as the cheongsam). The first is a detail of a long sleeve silk scarlet qipao with incredibly beautiful fastenings. It's no surprise that this was chosen for the cover image. The second is a 1950s qipao, staggeringly beautiful beadwork. I scanned these from China Chic by Valerie Steele.

  1. These are absolutely gorgeous. I've always loved the look of a cheongsam. In the Mood for Love was one of my favorite movies for costumes alone.

  2. Oh wow! I love the embroidery on the 2nd cheongsam! I want every single one that Maggie Cheung wore in 'In the Mood for Love' (maybe if I could have her figure too...that'd be nice!) :) You would look amazing in a 'qipao' PretaPorter P!

The modesty of the garment is intriguing to me.

  10. I only wish I could pull them off.... ironically on a Chinese girl like myself, I would just look so silly in them but on others, they'd look beautiful....
