sunset

On Amidala (Natalie Portman) is a bias-cut ombré to the chiffon and sand-washed silk satin full length dress held by hand-cut abalone shell collar piece and arm cuffs. The ombré colors from bottom to top progress from smoky lilac through pinks and oranges to the palest yellow. The hand painted headdress was shaped as the ridges of a conch shell.

This "sunset" dress reminded of Versace spring 2006, where Donatella took inspiration from desert sunsets and its landscape following her stint in an Arizona rehab/Palm Springs vacation. Here, Halle Berry from that season's ad campaign, where she met the gorgeous man she went on to have a baby with. And the same could be said of Amidala... Ah the allure of the sunset dress...

The usual, I scanned the image (left) from Dressing a Galaxy by Trisha Biggar.

  2. Oh! I remember when I saw the dress on the left in the cinemas, and I gasped, it is absolutely gorgeous, all that draping! I had especially worn a silk chiffon kimono to see the movie, thinking it Amidala-worthy, haha!

And the ombre on the Versace (and don't get me started on the ever-so-stunning Halle Berry) is just beautiful!

  3. vogueite: it seems like i am! but really i havent watched the movies in years! but the costumes have always stood out in my mind. my brother was actually a huge star wars fan when we were younger. so any star wars stuff that i may have, came from him. i just have to find where it all is!!

brigadeiro: she had so many beautiful costumes in this movie. her wardrobe was much softer and romantic.
and now i must see this kimono of yours!!

  11. H of CC - Sadly I sold the silk organza kimono :( Well, it wasn't a real Japanese kimono, but something an australian designer made which I loved, used a few times and decided to sell :( DOH!

  13. This just reminded me of my favourite take on ombré by Miuccia Prada several seasons ago. It's not always something that appeals to me but if done right with the colours and the material then I'm sure to rave about it...
