Men of Style: The Joker of The Dark Knight

"The clothing is custom, no labels. Nothing in his pockets but knives and lint."
- Commissioner Gordon

Okay, I admit, maybe The Joker is an obvious choice. But I grew up watching James Bond and Batman. It's no surprise he makes my list considering he shares 007's costumer designer. Like noted in the movie, the clothes are custom; however, the tie is from Turnbull & Asser, and shoes were made in Milan, makers unknown.

Again it's very important to me that you notice the argyle suspender.

  1. quite dapper, yet loaded with interesting contrasts. his character is made more intense and disturbing via his wardrobe...the almost garish green vest...the borderline crazy mix of patterns.
    the styling: it's genius, really.

i did notice the argyle suspenders (oh, and the jewel tone argyle socks!)

  7. And the argyle socks! I wonder who made the socks, and which they chose first, the socks or the suspenders.
Great idea for a series, -h!

  9. i loved everything about the joker's styling. i don't remember the joker of batman series days (pow, kick, etc) but he's always been such a stylish character. i used to copy comic book characters as a kid, and designed costumes for them...villain personalities were so versatile!

  10. I love the dark and unexpected colour contrasts. Gentlemanly argyle detailing works in so well. Heath Ledger does a wonderful job portraying him. RIP Heath...he used to live just down the road!

  13. ohhhhhh fuck yes. I watched this movie over and over just to see Heath's performance. Best villain EVER (in my humble opinion).

I have a friend who tracked down really amazing look-alikes of every single piece (idk about the suspenders though!) for halloween last year, and he still wears all of them (albeit not together, lol)

  16. The thing I liked about Halloween last year was seeing guys actually wearing suits and waistcoats, if only to dress like the Joker! But yes, definitely a style inspiration, the colours are gorgeous. Hope you're having a beautiful day :)

  20. i love the color green, but they make it look so menacing. It's amazing how they channeled the clothes to truly reflect the mind-set of the character.
