Recent(ish) Buys

When it comes to shopping, I try to pick pieces that I feel are versatile/practical or (to borrow from Tim Gunn) Soul Stirrers.

Recent(ish) Buys
Brooks Brothers Navy Double Breasted Sweater

The only clothing purchase I made in Vegas. The others were a bottle of Dior Homme Eau Noire and a Baccarat Rock Ring. Time certainly flies, I can't believe it's been over a month since my Vegas trip. Back to the sweater, it really filled the gap in my wardrobe for a "smart" navy outer-piece. The only other navy outer-piece I had was my velvet "Geisha" jacket, which I was never too crazy about wearing to work.

Black Suede Thigh High/OTK Boots

I am obsessed with Christian Louboutin's Black Suede Thigh High Monica Boots; fast forward 1-2 years later with the "trickle down effect" I was finally able to cop simple black (faux) suede thigh high boots via ebay for 30 something and change. I wanted to get these on the cheap side since they were a Soul Stirring want and I didn't think I'd actually wear them. To my surprise, these boots have become an instant wardrobe staple! The key for me is toning them down with something long to make them discreet.

  4. I can't believe I didn't make it to the Dior Homme store while i was in Vegas. Of course, I don't have legs like yours, so I'm sure the pants wouldn't have looked as great!

  5. great proportions with all these outfits. my favorite is probably the 4th one- drapey F21 sweater. of course the OTK boots could not be cooler- and what a steal! love the navy cardigan...
the way you've styled that kimono is quite forward-thinking, edgy, pretty and creative. now to get my hands on a kimono (hadn't thought of anthropologie in a while- must have a look, next shopping trip)....a kimono provides a multitude of styling options, and never looks dated.

  12. Great post. Both those items are just my taste, and I love that phrase, Soul Stirrers.

I HAD those exact boots! For years & years, all thru the time when no one wore them. I'd found them in a thrift shop on Long Island, made by Anne Klein, and they were in some kind of authentic faux suede. They stretched so it was like wearing over the knee socks & with my bony knees, they eventually stretched out, so I was constantly pulling them back up, or they'd fall around my ankle (which I liked, too).

They almost lived long enough to bask in the limelight once again. But last year they literally disintegrated. It was with a heavy heart that I let them go. Their memory lives on, so much so that I haven't found it in my heart to replace those Soul Stirrers. Hey! LIke my re-incarnated cat, perhaps they've returned to a new life... in Palm Beach Florida!

Oh been meaning to explain the purpose of the charity: all the money goes to two elderly UK charities, Age Concern and Help the Aged. Nothing to Topshop.

I love the way you took the time to shoot three versions of each and post them side by side. Lovely post, -h!
