Theyskens' Theory SS 2011

"I'd always been Olivier, the little Belgian guy who worked in Paris and was all about luxury. But before that I'd been the Belgian guy who did luxe with a touch of street." -Olivier Theyskens

The button trousers are very reminiscent of a look from SS 1999.

Once I started digging up Theyskens' old work, aside from "gothic" dresses, I began to see certain consistencies that echo back to his prior work: similar pocket placement in his dresses, tailoring, cropped leather trousers and leather mini dresses. You can see all this in the video of his SS 1999 collection. I have decided on which piece I want after being able to try it on in person, now comes the self-imposed torturous sale waiting game.

  1. Great collection, I love the simplicity! Two of my favourites are the jeans with the white blazer and the croppet leather pants with the sheer blouse. In a somewhat different life, this is how I'd like to dress, but it's still great inspiration for a little less formal occasionwear.

  3. I would happily take the 1st or 3rd look in the second row.

  4. Oooh, I would love to know what your pick is! The fitted maxi skirt perhaps?

That's the thing with Theory - they are all just basics but when you try it on, there's something different in the way things fit, especially the pants. They must have some genius pattern maker.

Good luck with your sale stalking!

  6. I loved the collection in pictures but seeing it in stores was a little disappointing. Some of the pieces were absolutely perfect basics, but on others the fit and fabric seemed cheap somehow...

  7. This is a stunning collection- it's so wearable and classic but still has that twist that I love. I'd die for that entire top row.

  8. I didn't see this collection in real life, but looking at the pictures I would risk to say it's more than perfect. The blazers, leather pants, maxi skirt are so perfect in their simplicity.

  9. I see we use the same strategy. Research, narrow down, try on, decide, then wait. Without this process it wouldn't be as thrilling for me in the end.
