Hatsumomo

Hatsumomo
I’m not one to ever wear full on red in public. I expected intense disapproval the first time I wore my Alexander McQueen—and that was burgundy.
But I can’t deny how striking Hatsumomo is in this scene. Of the whole movie, this is the one I remember line for line.

  2. mmmm - red is a touchy color to wear in the West, no? i like that it's such a controversial and 'difficult' color. i wore a red column dress to my high school prom, though. it was lots of fun! :D

  3. yes, quite a scene, and the red kimono was perfect.
so did you really get disapproval from wearing the mcqueen? if so...well, what's wrong with people?! (i sometimes got interesting reactions from my going-out attire when i lived on the Rock, aka, Tortola- if i was wearing something other than flip-flops and a sundress.)

  4. style odyssey: No it turned out I got the exact opposite from the person I was expecting to hate it. As for strangers...psshh. I know I'm not dressed vulgar or offensive. But I was nervous to wear it because there a lot of extra people around the house, but I said f* it, their job is to put stucco on the walls, not be fashion critics. I went and ate a burger at Wendy's (not deliberately) in the total McQueen costume. lol! It reminded me of a quote from Daphne Guinness along the lines of how a true fashion animal will still be in something interesting even if it's just to starbucks.

  5. Very beautiful. I wonder if she'd swap her hair for my hair?

I'm going to have to check out that movie.

I don't wear red either. Being blond I feel like Kelly Bundy in it.

  6. Wow, that red kimono is stunning! I'm a huge fan of bold red, my most 'outrageous' piece being my vintage indian red embroidered skirt...seems to cause a reaction whenever I wear it (I attribute this to the gold and plentiful embroidery)!
