Jean Paul Gaultier Cheongsam Jacket

10.19 10.21
One of my missions in NYC was to check out the consignment shops. I found this exquisite Jean Paul Gaultier cheongsam jacket at Round About Resale in Soho. I can’t rattle Gaultier off the top of my head like I can Ford or Slimane—so I’ve been sifting through style.com's archives to ID its origin and brushing up on some “Gaultier-isms” in the process. Even though it’s from FW 2010, it’s very reminiscent of his FW 2001 couture show. Not only that, it has one of Gaultier’s signature silhouettes.

After seeing the Daphne Guinness exhibit, this jacket reminds me of her penchant for tailoring and Far Eastern flourishes. I don’t know if she wears Gaultier, but I can imagine her in this one.

  3. son: I personally would recommend Round About Resale in Soho. It's a beautiful, well organized consignment store—with a friendly staff. Check out Daphne Guinness' FIT exhibit if it's still showing. It has its shortcomings but it is a free exhibit after all.

Also for the less than glamorous stuff: regarding airport transportation, I used New York Airport Service Transportation (NYAS) for my departure, from Grand Central Station to La Guardia. Their office is on the east side of the big green bridge outside of Grand Central. I wish I had known about them when I arrived instead of paying almost 90 bucks for a cab! (But I did arrive in Newark)

Res Pulchare has good NYC recommendations here and here. And the NYT compiled a list of consignment/thrift shops here.

    I hope this helps!

  4. Everything about this jacket is exquisite. The lapel shape; the drape of the neckline to reveal the cheongsam . . . It's stunning. You look marvelous in both ensembles--that piece is surely going to get much wear over the coming years.
