Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Versace 1998

cbk versace 98

This comment from Sisters in Black Frocks sums it up best: "I remember I saw Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in a Versace white long sleeved dress that was so minimal and sleek. She wore it to some gala, it was through her that I realized that Versace can be for minimalists, as well."

  1. i just loved carolyn bessette kennedy- her grace and style, and that gorgeous hair. a classic american beauty who always got it right.
i'd never have guessed the dress is versace!
she had the makings of an icon.
    so tragic, what happened.

  3. There was a period of time where I would fall in love with something I saw in an editorial and be absolutely shocked that it was a Versace piece. I loved the fall 2003 collection, which was so rock and roll and simple at the same time, and there was an unmistakable look of luxury. I think the thing about a lot of new designers that have come up in recent years is that they lack that lush, luxurious factor. Eg, Rodarte will make a very elaborate collection but it's like a craft project, and has very little to do with genuine style.

I love that you remind me of the fashion I loved growing up!

  5. I agree with Lin. Just looking at these pictures--which aren't the greatest quality--I can nearly FEEL the beauty of the fabric. I rarely sense that these days, and if trying to find a minimalist piece of beauty, the fabric must be perfect.

  11. Oh Carolyn Bessette Kennedy! She was such a style icon: an ethereal beauty. I remember her in this dress, actually.

And I love the top post: I cannnot believe you were able to source that gorgeous photo from 1992 and reference it to H&M. Genius.
