Rick Owens menswear

It’s a misconception that designer clothes only look good on tall, skinny people. Actually, much like the designer himself, Rick Owens menswear in particular looks best on muscular body types, especially since I find the foundation of Rick Owens' clothing to be based off gym wear.

I’m not really into clothes. I wear one outfit like a uniform, and I have for years. Black sweatpants, black baggy shorts over them, a black or white cotton t-shirt, and a black cashmere t-shirt over that. I couldn’t imagine having to change outfits every day or having to change for the gym. –Rick Owens

  1. And THAT is the definition of a style icon. Ever notice that many style icons are people who aren't particularly into style? The trying too hard kind of ruins everything. Especially when you're trying hard not to try hard. That's fashion anathema.

  3. I read this quote somewhere else and absolutely loved it! A healthy body is the best way to showcase beautiful clothing. This is exactly why I'm taking ballet classes next semester. I've never liked working out in a gym setting but being sedentary makes me feel pretty awful after a while, which is exactly what happened this past semester.

  4. Yes, I always find the Stella McCartney for Adidas runway presentations to be extremely frustrating. The clothes themselves are awesome and high-tech and are good enough reasons to hit the gym, but they always use super-skinny models and the clothes would look so much better on athletic, toned models. I think it actually does the brand a disservice by not using actual athletes.

  5. My favourite designers are pretty much those who stick to a uniform (and usually their own designs). I like how easy Rick's stuff is to wear, and the fact that you can wear it pretty much every day.

Just got a pair of the black flannel cropped swinger pants on sale - there is something to be said for a designer who gives you decent and deep pockets. Small thing, but often overlooked.

  6. What strikes me abour RO is his consistency, no bullshit attitude which completely translates in his work.

  7. Syed: I know Rick Owens has said about having pockets “big enough to store a book and a sandwich and a passport.” I too like a deep pocket.
