Love/Hate

4.12x2
The Infamous Black Fleece Shirt Dress

It’s a bit out there and certainly not for the faint of heart—but I love it. Judging by the confused/amused looks or snide comments I receive—not everyone shares my sentiment. I previously only wore my shirt dress in the “winter” with black boots, but now that I’ve put together this casual “Ashley O” version, I can start wearing it year round. Let the haters hate!

What’s in your wardrobe that you love but other people hate?

  1. Oh my! I've been putting this style of pieces together in the privacy of my own home! I LOVE it. Dresses, especially shirt or tunic dresses, look fabulous with jeans. Brilliant!

    1. It can be tricky to pull off, but I am very happy with this combination.

  2. I love it! There are always those who are going to hate things that are a bit different or that challenge their assumptions. I think the controversial piece that people like to hate in mine is a pair of grey suede harem trousers - I still love them!

  3. That's nothing! You should see the confusion when I wear my Junya trench-cape. "But... the sleeves are sewn into the sides..." I guess it's all in your attitude.

    1. "it's all in your attitude" exactly, I've grown more into my own skin (and clothes). Also good call on sewing in the straps to keep it fastened. But would you ever be able to un-stitch the sleeves to wear it normally?

  4. I can't imagine anyone hating anything you wear. These exaggerated proportions really work for you. Wear with confidence and ignore the remarks! And I have a feeling you're already doing just that. :)

  5. I love your summer take on the shirtdress too! It suits you incredibly well and that's what matters.
I guess my IM sneakers aren't always appreciated but they've become so popular that I barely get a glance every now and then.

  6. I have a really bright orange t-shirt and people always say it makes me look ill (I have really light hair and skin), but I love it, and I definitely won't stop wearing it :))

  7. I think it is working on you! It helps that the fit on the top portion is so perfect/classic.

I just picked up a pair of harem pants (not just loose tapered pants, no no- the crotch is right by my ankles) and the thought of the commentary has me wanting to take them back. Keeping them for another week or two and hoping I get over it and wear them out anyways!

  8. Mine is usually a case of clothes that are really worn and falling apart but I can't bring myself to replace, like my Converse. Everyone thinks it's filthy but I genuinely don't see the issue...

I think the shirtdress suits you perfectly and you've manage to make the look your own.

  9. You're lucky you're so tall and can pull off this look. I, on the other hand will look like a child playing dressing up in my mom's clothes. Mine's probably my beloved track pants and sweatshirt. Haha.... I get the odd look here and there but hey, at least I'm comfortable :P
