Noctambule

Noctambule
Louis Vuitton Noctambule in Black Epi

Because I got the strange idea in my head that I should buy all my "luxury" goods before I hit my 30s, I wondered what my inaugural Louis Vuitton would be. A way to tip my hat to a brand I used to be a fan of. While I've always admired the Neverfull, one I would not be comfortable carrying monogram, and two I don't believe in spending a lot of money just to have the same darn thing as 3578458985 other people. And too bad Vuitton treats Damier Graphite as men's only. With those two out, that leaves epi leather. Discreet and durable. Hmm...sounds like something I would like. But which one? I briefly considered an indigo (blue) Alma because I liked a similarly shaped Brooks Bros bag. I even hoarded various internet pictures of the Alma. But then it occurred to me: if I have to convince myself, it's not the bag for me. And now when I look at it, I see it's too "marcjacobsy" for me. I don't have a rational explanation for this, and yes I'm aware that Coco Chanel allegedly carried a Louis Vuitton Alma. Now I don't remember how the Noctambule found me, but however it happened there was no turning back. It's unique, discreet, with a touch of oriental chic. Plus, I remembered it from Fernanda Tavares' ad campaign that I loved so much. Good enough for Fernanda T, good enough for me!

Noctambule
fits nicely into my little life

  2. It's gorgeous! And the way it works with your ensembles makes it perfect for you. I look forward to hearing how Epi leather wears in your opinion. I love the colors it comes in.

  3. Ooh H! It's gorgeous! I am a big fan of the Epi leather for LV, and the shape of yours is just brilliant, not too casual but not too serious, if you know what I mean? Great 'investment' buy! ;)

  5. I like the Epi leather, and it seems like it's not so "precious" that you would have to constantly worry about scratches (I'm looking at you, Céline box bag!) Great size for you as well!

    1. I've read on tpf that the old epis "wore like iron" and the newer epi leather is softer and more likely to scratch. Considering my bag is over 10 years old and looks brand new speaks well for itself, whether the leather is just that resistant or the previous owner rarely used it I don't know.

  6. Very cool. I think very few people to carry a bag like that and make it work, and you're one of them.

  7. The leather looks so damn good, and I really like the handles. Haha I know what you mean about the Alma though, I like it in theory, but for some reason I just associate it with the trashier side of LV's customer base now (admittedly because I automatically think of the embossed patent pink...yikes!).

    1. I love the handles too. Some of the other epi bags from this era feature similar glossed handles. Hehe for some reason the hardware and handles on the alma (and some of the current epi models) have that mj/prada/miumiu look, which is not my thing.

  9. Seriously these are the very same reasons I have a love hate relationship with LV because finding the one that meshes with my aesthetic is hard. For one I think monogramming works in someone's life probably 10% of the time and why would I pay hundreds to look like half the globe? But you chose a style I've actually never seen before and the first and last look are incredibly flawless. To know that was a F21 dress...hats off to you gal.

    1. It's why I don't get caught up with "luxury" goods, because I think price isn't the sole designator of luxury. I think exclusivity should weigh in too. LV is sold across the globe, w/ undoubtedly many stores one on-top of the other (like where I live). Also, LV did a lot of cool more uniquely designed bags in epi...all since discontinued. But because the nature of epi is not to be identified as LOUIS VUITTON!!! from across the street, epi has a low resale value if you decide to buy it 2ndhand.

hehe each outfit has something from f21 in it. If you click thru the link on the picture it will take you to the outfit credits. I don't always include it in posts, because it gets too text heavy.

  12. 'If I have to convince myself, it's not the bag for me'.

Such wisdom: you're such an old soul, Pret, for one who ISN'T EVEN YET 30!!

You've got such a way with words: 'I see it's too marcjacobsy for me'. I don't get caught up with 'luxury' goods, either, and for the same reason. I'm even more extreme: I just treat all of it, these days, as artifacts I'd enjoy in a museum - like when I saw the Pompeii exhibit recently, here in London - but not as something that I'd buy, possess.

That said, this is a beautiful bag, and I can see it fitting nicely into your 'little life'. And knowing you, I bet you wouldn't even destroy it the way I would - you probably even keep it tidy inside. I'd love to see a post of 'what's IN my Noctambule!'

    1. I'm no bajillionare who can spend frivolously, so I want to have an undisputed love for the pieces I acquire. The problem for me is I start wanting to own the artifacts, but I've been very lucky that they find their way to me.
