Fashion Resolutions 2013: Mid Year Update

Charles Jourdan by Guy Bourdin (1976) 2
With July just around the corner, it’s time for the half year recap of how I’m doing with my fashion resolutions
Buy Less and Spend Less On Clothing.
I’ve made 4 fashion purchases so far this year: only one of which was clothing, the others were accessories (2 bags, 1 ring). I’m waiting until it’s officially July to indulge in sale season.
Focus on Jewelry Instead.
My special piece is on the backburner until next year (and I was so close!) as I raided the stash for the Dior Samourai bag. Absolutely No Regrets. I re-purchased a Baccarat Tango ring (thanks AA!) I shattered last year; however, the "new" one doesn't compare to my beloved original. But I had the surviving head of the original re-set in silver. I also plan to replace my pearl earrings in July.

Shop For and Maintain a Wardrobe that is Suitable for Me.
I listed my ebay item. And I dropped off my clothing donation today…FINALLY! I still have some alterations and fixes to do. I removed the crazy shoulder pads from my YSL velvet jacket, and had a duh! moment to wear it without the sash. I should have known better as sashes never work on me.

How are your resolutions doing half way through the year?

    2. Well Done indeed! I am planning to do a similar post, so I might as well get it over and done with. I have not done as well as you AT. ALL. Sad trombone. But there's a new half-year coming up, and it is never too late to reel things in!

    3. your resolutions are brilliant - and you're sticking to them so well!

i've done a good job of sticking to my seasonal wardrobe planning, and it has been helped by few great sale gems the last two weeks! i'm peeking at one or two items from the Zara sale now...

    4. Ah, how I love those mid-year assessment posts, thanks for sharing! It really seems the best way to have a consistent and suitable wardrobe is to make alterations at some point, like the shoulder pads you mention removing.

You seem to have done pretty well, I wonder if I'm disciplined enough to save for such big purchases, but this bag seems to be worth it, loks very polished, elegant and well finished.

      1. I agree with Kali, I'm discovering so far for me its all about the alterations for sustainability and curbing future binges. But Im doing so good, and honestly can't even count the number of "new" items, been mostly thrifting and learning about the art of vintage.

    5. Congratulations on following through with your resolutions! Making only 4 fashion purchases so far this year sounds insane to me, I envy your spending control! Hope you were able to pick up some good items on discount in the July sales.

I have tried to commit myself to investing only in quality pieces I want, need and will wear. So far I've only slipped up a couple of times, especially this sale season. Often I tell myself I need and will wear something even if I know deep down it isn't practical. I justify my purchase by saying I'll regret not getting it in the future when it's no longer available (it's ART!? :P). However on the whole I have been doing very well. I've sold a few things on eBay and used the money to purchase items that fit my wardrobe perfectly, so that has been another step forward!

      1. I'm going crazy this month with the sales. I'm guilty of the it's ART!! purchases. I was very tempted by some RO "art" pieces, but opted for the versatile piece instead. Hoping it fits.

    6. Good for you! Too bad about your ring. I cleared out as well. Felt good. I did do a little splurge on two pairs of trousers and have set a budget for our LA trip this weekend. The good thing about living in BC is we can pretty much where the same thing all year - in layers. Fingers crossed.
