Work Wear

For work I keep it pretty simple. I stick to a minimal color palette of consisting mainly of BLACK, navy, blue, white, and grey. I rely heavily on tees (black or striped) + cardigans. I rarely wear heels to work, which means I'm mostly in my flat friendly trousers--especially my two black pairs from Zara. Mostly I dress in black or nautical themes. But I do manage to sneak in crazy things like black brocade pants, Missoni/Target zig-zag coat (you'd be surprised how often I wear this), and even a little Rick Owens. How do you dress for work?

  1. Your work week ensembles are so effortlessly lovely; I lust after some of those pieces, especially the pants (the hardest thing to find for me—something I hope to solve this year). The white loafers are especially interesting. Do you find them as wearable and maintainable as one would hope?

    1. I haven't had any problems. I don't think I've even sprayed mine. Re: pants, what's worked for me are finding pants that fit me in the waist with the pockets I like, and then having them re-cut to the silhouette I want. It helps that I have a pair I can bring to my tailor to base the measurements off.

    2. i love the way you dress for work! really classic and I like that you can even wear rick owens...I have to save my rick owens attire for the weekends. My work is very casual...its more about comfy chic.

  2. These little outfit sets remind me of the paper cut out clothes of a paper doll's closet. A very chic paper doll at that!

  3. Thanks for that post! I always need inspiration for work outfits but then what I find is the usual high heels glamazon/conservative kind of outfits: not for me. Your approach is similar to what works in my own corporate environment and what I aspire to look: comfortable but classy.

    1. Another great source of work-wear inspiration is on res pulchrae's old blog under the "werk" tag.

  4. i love your go-to colors and combos. a striped tee with a jacket or navy cardigan is also a must-have in my work/weekend uniform. alas, i think i'm not tall enough to ever pull off white trousers without sky-high heels. but maybe next summer i'll finally go for some white skinny jeans...

  5. Aah I recently switched browsers and apparently my comment didn't go through the other day.

I really appreciate seeing what people wear to work. I know it's almost an inevitability that I'll have to conform to a corporate wardrobe at some point in the future, so having some inspiration is comforting. Especially the fact you even sneak a RO piece in.

  6. Gorgeous as usual!
For work, I usually wear loose fitting trousers, a silk t-shirt and a cardigan. Varying shades of black and grey. Footwear, when it's not raining - lizard ankle boots (flats), however, it's usually raining so I wear stacked heel boots and deal with callouses all winter.

  7. Your outfits are effortless and easy to mix and match, no doubt.
I usually work from my home studio so I often wear yoga clothes. That way, I can stop anytime and do a few stretches on my mat or pop out for a quick walk with my dog. If I'm out and about, I'm wearing something Rick Owens most of the time.

  8. My entire style philosophy is keeping it simple, but I do love to surprise with a splash of colour now and then or with colour blocking necklaces, shoes or bags. Great ideas here. It just reminds me that I need a couple of new cardigans in my wardrobe.

  10. Nice outfit! It looks like you have the staples figured out. I just started experimenting with a new more-polished look for work, tapered and cropped black trouser with flats or black kitten heel pumps, will see how long this can go on before I go back to denim and steven alan shirt combination, but your posting certainly is inspirational because it is also very functional as well as chic.

  11. Nice work looks. I like classic/gamine looks for work in neutral tones of grey, white, navy, black as well. I really have to be utterly polished at work. Denim, tees etc don't work. I can barely get away with cardigans. Perhaps on a day when I'm not speaking before executives or presenting at work. I also have to dress for pretty long days (where anyone you can imagine may pop into my office) and evening events. Dresses, my bespoke trousers, bespoke silk shirts, and jackets are saviors in my wardrobe.
