Base Makeup Update

base makeup

When it comes to makeup, I actually do not wear it everyday or even most days. I view makeup as a fun little thing. That said I own more makeup than I’ll ever get around to wearing. But if there’s one thing I do well, it’s base. I hate the foundation feeling and anything that rubs off on my sunglasses is absolutely intolerable. As anyone of color knows, the struggle is real when it comes to a shade match.

Face

-Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (Medium/Dark): Purchased last October. I love the color match and weightless feel. I mix 1-2 drops in with my sunscreen, which minimizes the flakiness of the sunscreen.

-MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation (Shade 6): Yes I finally succumbed to MAC but this doesn't feel like makeup. Leans orange, but MAC claims the formula color adjusts. That said it is very pretty and very camera friendly. I resent the compliments I get when I wear this. I mix 1-2 pumps in with my sunscreen on days I feel like more coverage. One downside is the uncovered dispenser gets messy.

-NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Biscuit): On my second tube. A good mix of red/yellow tones to correct dark circles.

-Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer (Dark-60): Their version of the YSL Touche Eclat pen...? Yellow based and a nice color match—but ultimately useless. Not enough pigmentation to cover under eye circles not to mention disappears when blending. And constantly clicking the pen is time consuming and annoying. After a month, the pen broke and I haven’t replaced it.

Primer

-Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm: Nikki Tutorials put this on the map as a primer. I use enough products on my face that I rarely make use of this. There are many other youtubers (including Kathleen Lights) that have done wear tests on this if you’re interested.

-MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance (Radiant Yellow): I bought this with Matchmaster. I was in some kind of mood to have splurged on this. But it is nice and glow-y look for special days.

Setting

-Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder (Transparent): As seen on Farah Dhukai. It gets rid of the greasy sunscreen look in the morning.

-NYX HD Finishing Powder (Banana):  I don’t love this but not sure I completely hate it either. I use the Rimmel over this. I find it gets cakey on me. Baking is one of those techniques that is fabulous for pictures but ridiculous in person.

-NYX Matte Setting Spray: I like this for more makeup-y days.

Remover

-Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes and Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water/ Waterproof Makeup Remover: The wipes in the light blue package and Garnier with the blue cap. Both remove waterproof mascara, but the Neutrogena wipes I use more because I'm tired and lazy.

  1. Does the NYX setting spray have any kind of smell? I'm looking for something cheaper than the Urban Decay $30 sprays.

  2. I don't even wear make up, but micellar water has been a revelation, it's genius!
